WELCOME!

Hello, I am Judge Doug McCullough of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Welcome to the website for my re-election campaign.

I grew up in Swansboro, in Eastern North Carolina, and I have devoted my entire adult life to public service.

I spent twenty-nine years in the United States Marine Corps, worked on Capitol Hill with the Senate Ethics Committee, served as a Federal Prosecutor, and proudly serve on the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

Since February, 2001. I have been privileged to serve you.You elected me in 2000 as one of the 15 judges on the Court of Appeals, our intermediate appellate court. The Court of Appeals reviews all appeals, civil, criminal administrative or family law, except for those criminal cases involving the death penalty.

During the past seven and a half years I have authored over 700 opinions and participated in several thousand judicial decisions. A few of these opinions can be found in the
Selected Opinions section.

All Court of Appeals decisions can be found at the North Carolina courts site, www.nccourts.org.

An appellate judge should have substantial trial experience, legal intellect, integrity, and the ability to communicate judicial decisions in clearly written opinions. I possess these skills.

I attended UNC for my undergraduate education and South Carolina for law school.

I proudly served our nation for twenty-nine years in the United States Marine Corps. I spent almost four years on active duty, and retired from the Marine Corps Reserves as a Colonel in 1998.

After active duty I served as an organized crime prosecutor in Philadelphia before working on Capitol Hill as counsel to the Senate Ethics Committee and then legislative counsel to the last man to walk on the moon, former astronaut and Senator, Harrison (Jack) Schmitt.

I returned to North Carolina and for 15 years was a Federal Prosecutor (senior Assistant in the United States Attorney's Office in Raleigh).

Following my retirement from the Department of Justice I was in private practice for 4 years before assuming my place on this court. Read more of my biography here.

Upon examination of my judicial record, my military record, my dedication to the State of North Carolina and our country, you will conclude that I should be re-elected for a 2nd term on the Court of Appeals.

I have also recently authored a book called Sea of Greed about a smuggling case I prosecuted that led to the prosecution of Manuel Noriega. If you would like to learn more about this book, please visit the book's website at seaofgreedbook.com.

Thank you for reviewing this website and thank you for your support.
